Flyleds Tail Dragger Seven
Overview
The Flyleds "Tail Dragger Seven" is a combined landing and taxi light built specifically for the RV-15's low-profile wing. It is designed to screw directly into the light-mounting brackets already supplied in the RV-15 wing light bay, and Van's designed that bracket and the leading-edge aperture around this light — Flyleds' Paul states: "I made the light and Van's then made the bracket and leading edge aperture to suit." Van's is understood to be supporting the product, and builders expect it to become the factory-offered lighting option; in the meantime it is ordered directly from Flyleds.
Two lights (one per wing) give a combined landing beam aimed straight ahead plus a fixed 20-degree down-angled taxi pair with a wide-angle lens, so the runway and taxiway edges stay lit with the tail on the ground.

Specifications
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| System voltage | 12 V only |
| Main (ALL) input | ~7.5 A, 9000 lumens — lights all seven modules |
| Taxi input (optional, second feed) | ~2 A, 2400 lumens — lights the two down-tilted modules only |
| Taxi module angle | 20 degrees down, fixed, wide-angle lens |
| Main board size | 190 x 76 mm (7.5 x 3 in); heatsinks extend 75 mm (3 in) aft |
| Weight | 800 g (1.8 lb) per light |
| Wiring — ALL input | 14 or 16 AWG; 10 A breaker/fuse for one light, 20 A for a pair |
| Wiring — TAXI input | 18 or 20 AWG; 5 A breaker/fuse |
| Duty cycle | No operating limit — oversized heatsink behind each LED |
Two internal isolating diodes keep the two power inputs separated, so energising either or both circuits is safe. The linear power supply design is specified to produce no radio or intercom noise. The lights integrate with a VP-X, Garmin GAD 27, or Dynon/Advanced Flight Systems ACM.
Parts Required
- 2 x Flyleds Tail Dragger Seven (SKU 24021) — one per wing
- Optional: Flyleds WigWag Module and WigWag Switch for a flashing recognition setup
- Update (Aug 2026): Van's has told a builder that the mating connectors will be included with the wingtips in the finish kit, so you may not need to source them. Until the finish kit ships this is unconfirmed in writing. Source
- Connectors are NOT supplied. The harness side uses TE/AMP Circular Plastic Connector (CPC) Series 1 hardware — the landing-light harness terminates in a 206060-1 four-pin female plug, which needs a mating four-pin male receptacle such as 206153-1 (free-standing, flange-mount or board-mount). See SECTION 05: General Information for CPC part numbering, contacts and the extraction tool.
Installation Notes
- The light is designed to screw into the brackets already provided in the RV-15 wing light bay — no bracket fabrication intended.
- Open issue (August 2026) — aperture fit: the rear cooling rods jam against the edge of the mounting hole before the trailing corners clear. Shaving roughly 1/8" radii off the two outboard corners of the aluminum board lets the assembly slide in, with plenty of hole clearance remaining. Source Flyleds is aware and may revise the plate.
- Building the light in permanently (rather than through the aperture) makes it unserviceable without significant disassembly — worth avoiding.
- Plan the wiring during Section 30/31, before the wing is skinned: run both the ALL and TAXI feeds if you want independent taxi lighting, and size wire and protection per the table above.
- Supplied fully assembled! — unlike some other Flyleds kits, no builder assembly of the light modules is required.
