General Build Notes

  • W-15011E-001 rib — extra tab (EARLY KITS): The rib at the strut attach location was manufactured with an extra lower tab that interferes with the strut attach fitting (Page 29-07). Van's guidance (Mar 2026): modify the rib as needed — no replacement will be sent. Trim the extra tab BEFORE attaching the rib. The same rib is used in SECTION 25: Inboard Mixer Box — check both locations, see SECTION 31: Wing Skins for an example of the extra tab.
  • Wing rib orientation warning: Wing ribs and nose ribs can be installed mirrored or backwards without obvious signs of error. Before riveting any rib, verify orientation against the plans drawing AND cross-check against the mirror-image page for the opposite side.
  • Interleave both wing skeletons: If space is available, build both wing skeletons simultaneously as mirror images — more efficient for drilling and alignment.

Specific Build Notes

Page 22-09 (R2)

  • An 11mm socket is a good fit for this bearing.

Page 22-11 (R2)

  • Step 1 should read, "Cleco 4 & 5 to the 1, 2, 3 riveted assembly"
  • Will need long-reach Cleco's here

Page 22-14 (R2)

  • The rivet callout is too short. The KAI calls for AN470AD-4-7, which is too short. AN470AD-4-8 works better.

  • W-15016B-001 and W-15016B-002 are identified incorrectly on these four pages, and do not match the diagram. If you follow the part numbers you end up with the bracket for the right wing. The images show the bracket for the left wing. Verify against the physical parts before riveting.

  • The rivet callout for the attach angles is incorrect (too long). The correct rivet, identified in earlier sample KAI versions Page 22-22 (R1), is AN470AD4-9.
