Wiring Pinouts and Colors
The pinout and wire-color chart below documents the existing factory wiring looms as delivered in the wing kits, plus builder-added circuits. Each connector is listed with every pin, the wire color on that pin, and the connector and pin it lands on at the other end.
Credit: This chart was researched and compiled by Alphalpha (Wheeler North, 15-0127), who developed the original spreadsheet template and released it to the community — "use, modify, improve upon it as you desire." How to read it
- Each connector opens with a shaded row giving its full name and pin count, followed by one row per pin. The pin rows use the connector's short code — so
Wing Root Left CPC (WRL24) appears as WRL24 on each of its 24 pins.
- The Location cell is merged across the whole connector block, so it is stated once rather than repeated on every pin.
- OEM / Added distinguishes factory circuits from builder-added ones, so changes to the delivered loom stay visible.
- Goes to uses the shorthand CONNECTOR-Pin, e.g.
LPTL4-P1 is pin 1 of the left position/tip light connector.
- N/A in the wire-color column means the pin exists in the connector but is unused as delivered — those are the spare positions available for added circuits.
Known gaps and caveats
- Connector and pin gender, and part numbers, are not recorded. Alphalpha notes both are useful when a circuit crosses several pages and connectors — a good target for the next person to extend this table.
- This reflects the harnesses shipped with early wing kits. Van's may change looms on later kits, and will likely publish schematics eventually — verify against your own kit before relying on it for fault diagnosis.
- Sections below the wings are placeholders: the fuselage, panel and firewall harnesses have not shipped, so those tables carry a single empty row awaiting data.

This connector and the left position-light CPC (LPTL4) are reversed in gender compared with their right-wing equivalents. Convention is to put the protected (female) pins on the power side, so a disconnected plug is less likely to short. See source thread. Not an issue if the plug is removed and wires direct connected to Flyleds Tail Dragger Seven.
